Christmas Festivities Part 2: Christmas Eve OOTD

Faux fur jacket - H&M // Velvet dress - Urban Outfitters // Ankle boots - F&F @ Tesco
(Blurry photo sorry!)
Usually on Christmas Eve we head back to our old local pub in Mapperley for festive drinks with our friends, however this year James and I decided we would organise a little Christmas Eve family meal at Frankie and Benny's. The outfit above is what I chose to wear. I apologise for the blurry photo, I don't really know what's going on with my camera at the moment! Anyway, I absolutely love this velvet dress from Urban Outfitters. It has a beautiful lace collar and is a sort of swing dress fit (always good around Christmas time).

The meal at Frankie and Benny's was so lovely and definitely worth the £19.95, which I thought was an extremely good price. To start with I had the butternut squash soup, which was the best butternut squash soup I've ever eaten! I followed it up with a vegetable risotto and a toffee popcorn sundae, both of which I forgot to photograph (bad blogger.) Frankie and Benny's also had a few festive cocktails on offer. I decided to go for 'santa baby' which if I remember correctly was made from malibu, archers, cranberry and a few other tasty ingredients. I am really glad we spent Christmas Eve with my family because we had such a lovely time. The food and service at F&Bs was fantastic and they topped it off by giving us vouchers to use in the New Year!

The final part of my Christmas Festivies post will be a 'What I got for Christmas' type post, it'll go up the day after tomorrow.

I hope you have a fantastic New Year's Eve, whatever your plans are. I can't quite believe we're saying goodbye to 2013 already. Like most people, I've had my ups and downs this year but it's ending with me feeling happier than ever. I know it's cliche, but I've got a good feeling about 2014 and I'm excited to see what it brings!  xo

Christmas Festivities Part 1: Nottingham Christmas Market

Let me start off by saying I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and Boxing day! I sure did, which is partly why I didn't bother blogging, y'know I was having too much fun and all that. But now that Christmas is over *sobs* I thought I would share a little bit about what I did over the last week or so in my next few posts. I think there will be three parts. Yes three parts sounds good to me.

The photographs featured above were taken at the Nottingham Christmas market which I visited a week last Tuesday with the lovely Sophia. We browsed the lovely little stalls, before heading to the hut where they were selling mulled wine. I had my first ever cup of mulled wine and it tasted much better than I expected it to! Nottingham always looks so pretty at Christmas time. I loved all of the beautiful lights and the little grotto huts which almost made it feel like you were in different place entirely.

Even though Christmas has been and gone, the market and ice rink are still open until 5th January 2014! If you are still in the festive spirit and are in the city, I highly recommend having a walk round one evening and indulging in some of the sweet treats on offer! xo

If like me you have been taking a lot of photos over the festive period, why not sign up to Photobox where you can get forty free prints!

Latest In Beauty box review - The Glamour Beauty Edit #2

Having loved the previous Glamour Beauty Edit box from Latest in Beauty (read my full review here) choosing whether to purchase this edition was an easy decision, especially once I saw some of the fabulous products inside!

So what's in the box?
Eyeko Lash Curler Benefit They're Real! Mascara, HD Brows Eye & Brow Palette, Balance Me Radiance Face Oil, Philip Kingsley One More Day Dry Shampoo, Maybelline Baby Lips and Toni & Guy Glamour Firm Hold Hairspray.

My thoughts...
Like with the last beauty box, what I love about this one is the fact that there isn't a single product that I haven't used! I've had the box a little while so I've had time to try out each of the products and whilst some are better than others, it is definitely worth £14.95, especially when you factor in that the total value of the contents is £65.00. See below for mini reviews of each of the products included in the box.

Benefit They're Real! Mascara
I was so pleased to see a sample of the Benefit They're Real! Mascara included in the box as I had wanted to try it for ages to see if it lived up to the hype. I'm pleased to say that it most definitely does! It leaves my lashes looking super long and the small applicator enables you to get close to the eye for a full lash look. I've seen some people complain that it is difficult to remove, but I can't say I have had any trouble.

Maybelline Baby Lips
The Baby Lips balm from Maybelline was probably the biggest surprise for me, in the sense that I wasn't expecting much and ended up absolutely loving it. I was sent one of the mint flavoured Baby Lips which is colourless. The mint flavour is lovely and I love how moisturising the balm is on the lips. I will definitely be picking another one of these up (perhaps a tinted one), as they are great for throwing in your handbag to re-apply when you're out in the cold!

Toni & Guy Glamour Firm Hold Hairspray
In all honesty hair products don't excite me. I only use a little hairspray to fix my hair once I have curled it, which is only about once every week! I have however tried this hairspray out and it does what it says on the tin - offers a firm hold! The scent isn't at all unpleasant like some hairsprays but I'm not convinced I'd repurchase this as I tend to just pick up whatever is on offer!

Philip Kingsley One More Day Dry Shampoo
In the last beauty box they included a Batiste Dry Shampoo, but in this box the offering was from Philip Kingsley. This was probably my  most disappointing product as I don't think it even compares to Batiste. Considering the full size price is £11.90 you would expect this dry shampoo to be some sort of miracle product. I much prefer Batiste. It does what you want it to and the price is much more reasonable!

Eyeko lash curlers
I feel like what I'm going to admit is some form of beauty crime, but until I purchased this beauty box, I had never used eye lash curlers! I don't know what it is about them, but they always scared me as I thought I'd some how end up cutting my eyelashes off! Thankfully I was wrong about that. I use these lash curlers everyday before applying my mascara and feel like they do make a difference. I  love how Eyeko have added the blue velvet handles to the curlers - a really nice touch!

Balance Me Radiance Oil
Whilst a lot of beauty bloggers rave about Balance Me, I'm still not completely sold. It's unfortunate because whilst I like the idea of the products being natural, I can't stand the smell of them! So far I have tried the moisturiser, the eye cream and the oil and I've had the same problem with all three. After trying the Radiance Oil a few times, I definitely noticed a difference to my skin. I think it's good to use this on days when you are going for a minimal makeup look. Despite liking the results of the radiance oil, I think I will be passing this onto my mum, as the scent is too off-putting for me to continue using it.

HD Brows Eye and Brows Palette

When it came to choosing a favourite out of all of the products I really struggled. It was a complete toss up between the mascara and this fantastic eye and brows palette by HD Brows. This was another product that I had been wanting to try for so, so long and I wasn't at all disappointed. This is the 'Foxy' palette which contains three brown shades and a lighter shade which can be used to highlight the brow bone. I tend to stick to using a mix of the two bottom shades to create the perfect colour for my eyebrows. The powder is easy to apply (I prefer using a Real Techniques brow brush rather than the mini one included in the palette) and lasts all day. This palette will last me AGES but when I finally finish it, I'll definitely be picking another one up.

Whilst not all of the products excited me, they were all very usable and I think the box was worth picking up for the HD Brows palette alone. I checked the Latest In Beauty website before publishing this review and they still looked to have the beauty boxes in stock, so if you want one, I'd go grab one now before they run out!

Have you purchased this beauty box? What did you think of the contents? Let me know in the comments below :) xo

The Christmas Tag

*Go to YouTube and put on your favourite Xmas song before reading the post to get into the festive spirit!*

1. Do you prefer a real Christmas tree or synthetic?
I’m going to have to say synthetic because they are less messy! A real one in our household would be no good as the dogs would be forever knocking the pine needles off with their bushy tails!

2. You're in a coffee shop, it's December, what do you order?
I’d probably have to go for a hot chocolate or my usual vanilla latte. I know Starbucks and other coffee shops do all those fabulous looking Christmas flavoured coffees, but I’m just not very daring when it comes to my coffee.

3. Whats your favourite colour scheme for decorating the tree?
Oh that’s a difficult one, I like all sorts of colour schemes. This year I’m really loving gold though. My mini Christmas tree in my room is decorated with three sorts of gold baubles – shiny ones, matte ones and glittery ones.

4. Giving or receiving?
Giving! I probably get more excited about seeing other people open the presents I have bought them than opening my own. Though obviously I like receiving presents too – who doesn’t?!

5. To mince pie or not to?
Blergh, no thank you!

6. What's your traditional Christmas lunch?
I’m a vegetarian so I usually go for a quorn type thing (this is where all the snobby vegetarians put their hands to their mouths in shock) and then all the usual trimmings apart from pigs in blankets obviously.

7. Christmas day fashion?
I usually spend a large proportion of my day in my pyjamas but then I pop on a nice dress for dinner / evening board games (a family tradition).

8. What's your favourite Christmas song?
Lea Michele’s version of O Holy Night – so, so beautiful!

9. What's your favourite Christmas film?
Love Actually! No explanation necessary.

10. Open presents before or after lunch?
Before Christmas dinner. We used to open them at like 6 o’clock in the morning (maybe even earlier) when my brother and I were much younger, but now we are usually hungover so it’s more like 10 o’clock!

Not sure who started the tag but I saw it on a beauty blog called All Things Pretty. Comment below and leave your links if you have done the tag too! xo

#Eastmidsmeetup

Just over a week ago (30th November) I attended the #Eastmidsmeetup, hosted by my lovely friend Emma. Although I had already met a few of the ladies attending, I was still so very nervous, but I needn't have been at all, as I had so much fun and met so many lovely new people. I really enjoyed shopping in Westfield, Derby with Harriet, Emma, Gavina and Saadiya. It was so, so busy, especially in Lush, but I managed to pick up a few little stocking filler gifts, including my secret santa gift for the lovely Rosalie.

After a good couple of hours shopping we headed to Fat Cats for our meal which was absolutely delicious. I had garlic mushrooms and blue cheese potato skins to start (which I highly recommend) and the falafel burger for my main. It was so much fun catching up with Harriet and chatting to the other girls on the table! Throughout the meal Emma presented us with various gifts including homemade cupcakes, lucky dip prizes and the biggest (and heaviest) goodie bags I've ever seen. The image at the top of this post is just some of the items featured in the goodie bag! I can't wait to try them out and will definitely be reviewing some of them in future blog posts. A HUGE thank you to all of the brands who were kind enough to send out all of these goodies. I felt like Christmas had come early!

Emma also organised it so we did a little secret santa on the day. I picked Rosalie out of the bag and treated her to my favourite bubble bar from Lush, the magic wand. The lovely Rebecca picked my name out of the bag and bought me the Candy Mountain bubble bar from Lush which was such a fabulous choice as I love Candy Mountain! Thanks Rebecca!

The day was so much fun and I am so glad I got to attend! It was my first meetup and after having such a good time, I would definitely go to one again. The fact it was all bloggers from the East Midlands was also a bonus as I feel like some of us East Mids girls miss out on a lot of events because of our location. It was so good being able to talk to other bloggers, not just about blogging but life in general! I'm also so glad I got to catch up with Harriet, Emma and Tori, all of whom I have had the pleasure of meeting before.

I would just like to finish this blog post by saying a MASSIVE thank you to Emma for putting so much hard work into making the #Eastmidsmeetup a success. She did a fantastic job at not only organising the day, but the meal and all of the goodie bags. I don't know how she found the time, being a fairly new mummy, I'm pretty sure she must have a cape hidden away in her wardrobe - a definite superwoman. xo

PS, The bloggers' names in bold are all links so pop over to their blogs and show some love!

Oh and I currently have two giveaways running!

Pour Moi? Lingerie Review & Giveaway

Pour Moi? Amour Longline bra and shorts in Cherry*

I don't know why but I always feel that little bit better when I'm wearing matching underwear. I know that no one else will know, but it's the fact that I know that matters! When the lovely team at Pour Moi? got in contact to see if I'd like to review one of the brand's Christmas sets, of course I said yes, yes please! After browsing the beautiful collection I chose the Amour Longline bra and shorts in the colour cherry. Obviously I wasn't going to take snaps of myself for the blog (you don't wanna see that) but I do have to say the set fits like a dream and I am so very pleased with the quality of the lingerie.

I think the bra and short set look so pretty with the cherry lace overlay. I also love the small details, including the little pink ribbons. It's the attention to detail that makes all the difference when it comes to good lingerie designs. The under wired bra comes with slightly padded cups, as well as detachable, adjustable straps. I have never worn a longline bra before but I love how it looks, the only thing I'm having to get used to is the extra couple of hook and eyes at the back - but I'm sure I'll master them soon enough! :)

If you feel like you have heard the name Pour Moi? before then you may have seen their beautiful lingerie on both ASOS and Figleaves where they are best-sellers! The brand's concept is simple - to design truly stylish lingerie for women of all sizes. Their designs are luxurious, based on catwalk patterns and colour combinations, yet affordably priced.

Pour Moi?'s bra sizes run from a cup size A to J and back sizes from 30 to 44. Their bottoms comes in UK sizes 8 to 22. Their current A/W and Christmas collections (which can be purchased directly from the Pour Moi? website) are the epitome of elegance, with something to suit all personal styles. Take a look and see for yourself - you are sure to find something you want to quickly add to your Christmas list!

Stocking Fillers #2 - Yankee Candles and Wax Tarts

I don't know about you, but Christmas is my favourite time of the year. I love the pretty lights, the food, the presents and the fact that it brings families together. Aside from all of those things I also love the smell of Christmas. There are just those certain scents that make you feel all Christmassy and happy.

Last week my lovely other half James gave me two little early Christmas presents, in the form of Christmas Yankee candles and wax tarts. They were packaged up in cellophane with gift bows and were just perfect, so I thought I would share them here on my blog as I think they'd make lovely stocking filler gifts!

The candles and wax tarts I received were all Christmas themed: Snowflake Cookie, Merry Marshmallow, Red Apple Wreath, Christmas Eve, Apple & Pine Needle, Christmas Memories and Christmas Rose. So far I have started burning Snowflake Cookie and Red Apple Wreath and absolutely love them. I can't wait to try out the rest. The scents are so strong, yet not too overpowering. You can blow the candles out and the scent will still linger for a good while. I have placed my candles in a couple of Nordic print candle holders I purchased from Poundland and will use my wax tarts on a burner that I bought from Wilkos for a couple of pounds.

I think Christmas candles (or any of the Yankee candles or tarts) would make the perfect stocking filler presents for candle-lovers this Christmas. You could even bundle them up in cellophane and tie a ribbon round the top to make a little personalised gift set. Just make sure that the person has a burner if you are going to buy them wax tarts.

Yankee candles and tarts are usually found in gift and card shops, but you can also purchase them online. If you are looking for cheap Yankee candles and tarts (singular or in bundles) I highly recommend having a look on eBay.

What is your favourite Yankee Christmas scent? I'm thinking of doing a little post on all of my Christmas decorations soon so keep an eye out.

OnePiece onesie review

I have wanted a onesie for absolutely ages but for some reason I have never actually got round to buying one, so when the lovely team at OnePiece asked if I'd like to review one here on Seek My Scribbles I pretty much jumped for joy! Regular readers will know that I work from home and it probably won't come as a shock to other freelancers when I say that there are times when I work in my pyjamas! This doesn't happen everyday, just the days when I am super crazy busy or the days when I just want to feel comfortable. Now that I have my OnePiece I can simply pop it on on those days, as well as on lazy Sundays as James and I like to call them.

If you have ever seen or worn a OnePiece you will know that they are not just your average onesie. The quality is far superior! The onesie I chose is made from 80% cotton and 20% polyester. It also has fleece lined fabric inside which is really soft and cosy. My OnePiece jumpsuit is super warm and has a lovely fairisle design which is perfect for the winter months. I also love that it has a hood. Who doesn't love a good hood?

I chose the navy blue and white Lusekofte onesie*, but there are so many different designs, colours and styles to choose from. There are even onesies for the hardcore One Direction fans out there, from when OnePiece collaborated with the boys.

Whilst I haven't yet ventured outside of my house in my OnePiece (I'm just not sure I'm cool enough) you totally could! It would definitely be warm enough to wear out and it's not like you'll look like you are popping out in pyjamas. OnePiece's onesies look more like 'sweat suits' - kind of like an all in one tracksuit, only WAY more stylish.

If you fancy treating someone special to a OnePiece onesie this Christmas or simply fancy getting yourself one (you deserve a present too you know) then be sure to use my 20% off code: 31SEEKMYSCRIBBLES

Do you own a OnePiece or any other sort of onesie? I absolutely love mine. It certainly should be a freelancers' wardrobe staple for those days when you just want to get cracking with your work without having to worry about putting together an outfit!

Social Like Mug review - the perfect stocking filler!

Oh tea, how I love thee. Nothing can quite beat a cup of tea when you come in from the cold winter weather! As a big tea drinker, I was absolutely thrilled when I was sent this awesome Social Like tea mug* to review from I Want One Of Those. I absolute love the design with the 'like' symbol. The mug is average size, made from porcelain and is dishwasher safe. What better way to show your appreciation for tea and social media! There's also a version for coffee addicts (which I could also label myself too).

I think mugs like this make the perfect stocking fillers for family members. As soon as my dad and my boyfriend saw I had this mug, they asked if they could have it to take to work, so I think it is fair to say that I am going to lose this mug to one of them! Mugs also make the perfect secret santa gifts for work colleagues. I Want One Of Those have a wide range of mugs with quirky designs for you to choose from, priced between £5.99 and £11.25. They also currently have a two mugs for £12.00 offer on so be sure to check that out! I have my eye on this adorable pug mug which I think a lot of you with love too!

Do you have a favourite mug from the website? Let me know in the comments below. xo

Lush Magic Wand Bubble Bar review & demo

If you love Lush's best-selling Snow Fairy shower gel, then you will absolutely adore the Magic Wand bubble bar. As soon as I spotted them in the Christmas section on the Lush website, I knew I had to get my hands on one! So off I popped into the Nottingham Lush store, where a lovely lady greeted me with a smile and took me straight over to the pile of Magic Wands. I ended up picking up two wands as I knew my mum would be equally as excited by their obvious cuteness and heavenly candy scent.

I had very high expectations of the Magic Wand bubble bar and I have to say it didn't disappoint at all. As you can see in the image below, the wand magically produces beautiful pink water and mountains of candy-scented, fluffy bubbles. I only had to swirl the product around the bath a few times, whilst the water was running and I ended up with way more bubbles than I usually get with other bubble bath products! Although the water is really pink, it doesn't stain your bath, so there's no extra cleaning required.

I can't even describe how amazing the Snow Fairy scent is. You just have to try it yourself. I am guessing that it won't be to everyone's taste as it is extremely sweet, but if you love the smell of bubblegum, candy floss and sweeties, you'll adore the scent of the Magic Wand bubble bar. Along with the cute design and amazing scent, I also love the fact that it is a reusable bubble bar. I have already used my bar five times and it it still all in one piece! Once I have got the desired amount of bubbles, I simply place the bubble bar on a pretty little plate on the side of the bath, ready for next time.

Because I'm a little geeky I thought I would show you a short demo to show just how lovely the Magic Wand is...

The Magic Wand bubble bar is priced at £4.95 and can be purchased in store or online. I think £4.95 is very reasonably priced, especially if you consider how many baths you will get out of it. Cost per use people, cost per use!

Have you tried this bubble bar before or picked up any of the other Christmas products from Lush? Let me know in the comments below - I'd love some recommendations. xo

Stocking Filler Ideas #1

I don't know about you, but some of my favourite presents to shop for are stocking fillers! I love picking up little bits and bobs to pop inside my friends and family's stockings. Today I have a few fantastic stocking filler ideas to show you from Find Me A Gift. Take a look and see what you think...

If you know someone that loves nail art then why not treat them to a set of stylish nail wraps? Find Me A Gift have so many different sets for you to choose from. I particularly love the chevron nails which came as part of the Beauty Rock Book Gift Set. For those who are into bold makeup looks, we have the Eye Rock Eye Tattoos. Again, these are available in a number of different designs and are great for giving your makeup look a unique edge.

Flip Flop Manicure Set* - £4.99

One of the things I love receiving as a stocking filler at Christmas is a cute little manicure set. I tend to lose the bits and pieces in my set over the year, so it's good to always get one in my stocking! This particular set includes four tools and comes in a travel-size flip flop shaped case. The super cute design also comes in other patterns - I particularly love the cherry and strawberry print sets on the Find Me A Gift website. For £4.99 I really don't think you can go wrong with a little stocking filler gift like this.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post! I have more coming soon. For now let me know what your favourite stocking filler ideas are in the comments below! :) xo

Urban Outfitters Nottingham Store Opening

Getting snap happy in the photobooth with Ellie, Sophia and Tori!

Love this outfit inspiration!

On Thursday I was lucky enough to be invited along to the Urban Outfitters Nottingham press event. Let me start by saying the much anticipated Urban Outfitters store does not disappoint! From their eclectic collections to their unique artwork, Urban Outfitters certainly know how to impress.

I really enjoyed browsing the new store, which is fantastically laid out. I loved everything from the perfectly styled mannequins to the artwork (created by local street artists) and the Sega Mega Drive, which can be found downstairs. Urban Outfitters were kind enough to offer us an item of our choice to take home. I chose a beautiful collared dress and then proceeded to pick up another two (which I bought myself) as I simply couldn't resist. I think I have a peter pan collar dress obsession, it's getting rather serious. Here's a sneak peek at a couple of the dresses I picked up. I will be sure to feature them in outfit posts soon, I have been so rubbish at outfit posts lately!

If you haven't already, I suggest that you definitely head to the new Urban Outfitters Nottingham store to see it in all its glory. I know that it is going to be so successful - you ought to have seen how many people were queuing up hours before the launch party started!

Thank you so much to Urban Outfitters for inviting me along to have a look around. I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
