A little update from the Lake District

I just thought I'd show you a few pictures I've taken on my holiday so far! We arrived yesterday to find that we were staying in such a beautiful house. It's up a little path and it's so stunning inside, I'm not sure I'm
going to want to come back.
The room we're staying in...
The amazing view from our bedroom window
Today we went to a lovely pub called The Outgate Inn for lunch, whilst we waited for the crazy thunderstorm to stop. Once we had filled up on delicious sandwiches we thought we'd take a little stroll around a beautiful place called Tarn Hows. My dad said that it had only ever been gloriously sunny when he and my mum had visited Tarn Hows in the past, however we were seriously doubting that the sun would show up after the torrential rain we had experienced in the morning. Much to our surprise the sun made an appearance and I managed to take the gorgeous photographs below.

A little friend we made a long the way...
Tomorrow we're visiting a historic market town called Ulverston. We are going to have a little look around some of the little shops, before taking a walk up to the Lantern Tower.

I will try and squeeze in a few fashion-related posts this week. I am going to get my dad to take my 'outfit post' photos, even though I'll be a little embarrassed!

Here's to 2.1.

Laura // Liz // Sarah // Megan // Hannah
My girls and I had lots to celebrate last night! Firstly my lovely best friend on the left, Laura, turned 21! It's scary to think that she has only just turned 21 and I'll be turning 22 in October waaaah. Secondly, I am very excited, proud and happy to say that I will be graduating on 19th July with a 2:1 in Broadcast Journalism!!! I'm over the moon and so pleased that despite the stress, worries and occasional tears, all of my hard work has paid off. Laura will also be graduating with a 2:1 too, so it was a double celebration for her!

Holiday Time! Sunglasses - Romwe
The other thing that I have to tell you is that I am off to the Lake District on Wednesday! I'm very much looking forward to a well deserved break. I definitely need time to chill and think about what to do next! I am hoping the weather will be sunny, so I can wear this lovely pair of glasses that I won in a Romwe giveaway, hosted on Emily's blog. I also won $80 to spend, so I will show you what I've bought in a later post.

I have visited the Lake District a couple of times when I was younger, however I didn't really enjoy going on walks, or appreciate the beautiful places back then. If there's any places you recommend visiting then feel free to leave me a comment below!

I will have internet whilst I'm there, so it's very likely that I will update my blog, and I'll definitely be sending the occasional tweet! What I must mention is that any Megan Jane Jewellery orders made while I'm away will not be posted until Wednesday 4th July.

When I get back I am finally going to organise my (overdue) 100 follower giveaway - still thinking of prize ideas!

Cath Kidston Summer Sale

Cath Kidston (UK)

Ribbon Stripe Mini Bag // Scattered Rose T-Shirt // Set of 3 Stationery Tins // Hampton Rose Ticket Holder
Cut Roses Make Up Brush Set // Bleached Flowers Travel Washbag // Bleached Flowers Photo Album // Victoria Rose Travel Wallet

If you are an avid reader of Seek My Scribbles, you will know just how much I love Cath Kidston. I recently received an email about their end of season sale and couldn't wait to have a browse at all of the lovely products. The items above are just a few of my favourite things on the website. I particularly like the rose print tee, which is such a good price at £10.00 and the makeup brush set, which I've had my eye on for a while, has been reduced from £25.00 to just £18.00.

Have you bought anything in the Cath Kidston sale, or any other summer sales?

Office chic

1. Flower Abacus Print - Orla Kiely // 2. Handmade Kitten Notebook - Etsy // 3. Cat Highlighters - Paperchase
4. Midsummer Memo Box - Paperchase 5. London Bus Journal - Paperchase 6. Pretty Dream Notepad - ArtBox
7. Day Dream Study Planner - Paperchase 8. Panda Pad - ArtBox 9. FiloFax - WHSmith
So today's post is a little different from my usual fashion related posts, but I hope you'll enjoy it none the less. I've always had a thing for stationary ever since I was little. Although I dreaded going back to school each year after the Summer holidays, I always looked forward to buying a new pencil case and pen set to show off in class. Even at 21 my love for stationary is still going strong, and being a freelance writer I get through endless amounts of notepads, as I use them to jot my article ideas down.

Now you can tell from the chosen notebooks above, that my taste in stationary is fairly eclectic. I love Orla Kiely's chic and sleek stationary designs, but at the same time love something that will make me smile. like the Pretty Dream notepad from ArtBox. I am also desperate to treat myself to a FiloFax, there's something special about them - I love how simple and official they look. Obviously I'd have to get one in a girly pink colour though. I'm currently using a blue notebook that has a little flower embossed on it, that I won in a giveaway. It has such a smooth, soft cover, which really appeals to me. I also have a lovely russian doll notepad from Paperchase, however I'm reluctant to use it often as the cover is a little fuzzy, like felt, which I don't like, and the pages don't have any lines on, which is always a no no for me! I think Paperchase is my go-to place for stationary, I'm always tempted by the cute critters they feature on their stationary, and the beautiful floral designs. However their prices can seem a little high if you compare them to little card shops and places like Wilkinsons who offer cute stationary at much lower prices.

I've been sorting my room out this week and creating a proper office space where I can do my work. Although I now have a desk, and the areas looking neat and tidy, I know it won't feel complete until I've bought a new stationary set, file holders and other little office accessories!

Do you have a thing for stationary too? (Please say I'm not the only one)

Hello Peaches

Peach Lace Maggie & Me Dress c/o Miinto // Birdcage Necklace - Megan Jane Jewellery
I bought this pretty little lace dress with vouchers I received a couple of months ago from the lovely team at Miinto. I had been waiting for the perfect summer dress to pop up, and then saw this one had been reduced to just £20 so I had to get it! I placed my order on Wednesday evening and the dress arrived on Saturday morning, proving Miinto's service to be very efficient.

I was a little worried that the colour would wash me out, and wouldn't look so good with my ginger-toned hair, however it didn't have that effect on me at all. I love the peter pan collar and the fit of the dress, which isn't too tight, but still flattering. I am a size 10, but bought a medium as I found the sizing a little unclear on the website. I think if you are the same size as me but want a slightly tighter fit it would be best to get a small. I've teamed the dress with my usual black tights, as it's still not summery enough for bare legs. I think my birdcage necklaces also adds a lovely touch to this romantic, girly outfit.

Vintage inspired dresses from OASAP

1. Petal Edge Bound Waist Mini Dress // 2. Puff Sleeve Mini Dress // 3. Flower Pattern Bow-Knot Bound Waist Mini Dress // 4. Cherry Print Wrapped Mini Dress

I am absolutely in love with each and everyone of the dresses featured above. They are such beautiful, romantic designs, which have clearly drawn on vintage / retro fashion for inspiration. I think the first dress is my favourite, and would be perfect for a summer day / evening date, or even the perfect 'meet the parents' dress. I love the bold blue colour, and the contrasting crisp white collar featured on the second dress. I think this is smart enough to wear to the office, and would look great with a pair of black tights and contrasting colour block heels. The third dress is so pretty, I love the bow detail and the frilled lace tiers. I think this would be lovely for a Summer party, or formal occasion, like a wedding - just don't upstage the bride! Finally the fourth dress features a dainty cherry print, and fifties style skirt. I think this would again be lovely for a Summer party, or even a picnic.

What do you think of these dresses from OASAP? Which is your favourite? They also have a selection of beautiful handbags which go perfectly with the dresses. I think I would buy nearly everything from the website if I had the money. Oh and just in case you haven't spotted it, they offer free worldwide shipping - you can't go wrong!

Megan Jane Jewellery store update

I thought I'd do a little post on my handmade jewellery today. I had planned to do a post about the Royals visit to Nottingham yesterday, however just as the Queen, Kate and William stepped out of the car, my camera battery decided it was time to die. Mega fail. It was a lovely event though, and well worth the couple of hours I spent waiting with two of my best friends Hannah and Eliza. My mum told me to take 'mental pictures' so I blinked, and I did.

Anyway, onto Megan Jane Jewellery! Some of you may have noticed that I have changed the backgrounds of my jewellery photos. I did originally have a pink candy stripe background, to match the bags I send out my jewellery in. However I noticed that quite a few small jewellery companies seemed to be using these bags, and I don't like to be doing the same thing as everyone else, so I'm making a few changes! I hope you like the new photos. I think they are better as you can see the jewellery and the colours more clearly. I also hope you love my latest pieces, including the two new floral birdcage designs. I do have more to make, including some pink ones, so keep an eye out for those!

I have many plans for Megan Jane Jewellery this Summer. I'd like to get a few pieces into a small boutique, do a craft fair, and organise a quirky photo shoot. Fingers crossed all will go to plan!

As always I'm open to suggestions, so if you have any ideas or would like to work with me please send me an email (meganjanejewellery@hotmail.co.uk). I do get a fair few requests from bloggers so unfortunately I can't work with everyone, however I promise that I always check out your blogs, and reply to all of my emails!

What do you think to the new pieces?

Maxi Dress - Next // Rainbow Pearl Necklace c/o Chunky Junkie // Cat Ring c/o OASAP

This beautiful rainbow pearl necklace was sent to me by the lovely Dale at Chunky Junkie. I am absolutely in love with all of the beautiful shiny colours and can't wait to wear it with a number of different outfits. I chose to wear it with my new black maxi dress in the photos as I thought it would make the colours of the pearls really stand out. I really wanted to take my photographs outside, to get the best natural light possible. However it's really dull and windy here in Nottingham today, so I had to take them in my living room instead!

Chunky Junkie stock beautiful, eye catching, unique pieces, all of which are perfect if you like to make a statement with your jewellery. I particularly like this gorgeous Metallic Nugget Spiral Bracelet and this Pearlised Broken Shell Bangle. All of their pieces are very reasonable priced and definitely on trend when it comes to statement jewellery.

Go and have a look at the website and let me know what your favourite pieces are in the comments below!

How very dare they!

So today the Daily Mail published an article featuring Kate Middleton's nude shoes. To be honest at first I thought 'what a weird thing to write an article about, many people wear nude coloured shoes,' but then I realised the journalist (Liz Jones) appeared to be criticising, yes CRITICISING, the Duchess for wearing her LK Bennet court shoes on too many occasions! Firstly let me just put it out there, I am a HUGE fan of Kate Middleton's style, and secondly a HUGE fan of nude heels, so this article didn't go down well with me, no it didn't go down well with me at all. It did however spark me to create this post featuring a few of my favourite pairs of affordable nude heels currently available on the high street / online! Now I know many magazines and fashion forward females are saying nude heels are 'so 2011' and to that I will simply say 'with all due respect, I do not care.'
1. ASOS Tornado Shoe Boots 2. Miss Guided Drusilla Metal Heel Patent Shoes 3. ASOS Paige Platform Heels 4. New Look Nude Platform Heels5. Office Kind Bow Court 6. Dune Asymmetric Cut Out Court
My nude heels are my absolute favourite. I usually wear them with black tights, as I do not like my bare legs. However by wearing them with your legs bare they do help to lengthen the look of your legs - and who wouldn't want that? I don't see the problem with Kate wearing nude heels with her outfits, and to be honest with that face and those amazing dresses she wears, who is even looking at her shoes?

Sunday's Song

I haven't done a Sunday's Song post for a few weeks, but I have had this song stuck in my head all week, so I thought it deserved a spot on the blog! I think this has to be one of my favourite songs ever, and it's funny because the first time I heard it, I wasn't actually that bothered about it! There's been so many covers recently but you just can't beat Florence.

I wish the weather was a little better today. I think there's some form of Jubilee celebration going on tomorrow where I live, so I may go and have a nosey and see what's going on then, but today I am going to stay snuggled up at home. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, a long with Will & Kate are all visiting Nottingham on 13th June. I'm not exactly a royalist, but I am definitely going to go to the old market square and see them, if only to catch a glimpse of what the beautiful Kate Middleton is wearing! xo If you've enjoyed this post follow via Blog Lovin / GFC / Twitter

Best of British

I thought seeing as we are celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee here in Britain this weekend, there would be quite a lot of Jubilee themed posts around. Instead I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite items from a few of our wonderful and talented British designers....
1. Alexander McQueen // 2. Paul Smith // 3. Ted Baker // 4. Lulu Guinness // 5. Radley // 6. House of Holland // 7. Cath Kidston
How beautiful is the McQueen dress? Unfortunately it isn't the only item above that is completely out of my price range, but a girl can dream right? I also love the adorable Cath Kidston guard print skirt, and the sparkly red peep toes from Ted Baker.

Who's your favourite British designer?

I hope you all have a wonderful Jubilee weekend, eating scones, drinking tea and celebrating with family and friends.
