Introducing Oby - My beautiful rescue dog

Yesterday marked a whole month since this little fellow came into my life. This is Oby, my family's beautiful rescue dog. He is six years old and a border collie x German shepherd (just like Jazz). I wanted to share the story of how he came into our lives here on my blog, because I think it is truly special.

Let me start by saying that my dad is not an avid tweeter. He rarely logs in to his account, let alone send a tweet, but one day (about a month and a week ago) he logged into his twitter and came across a random tweet from a lady that had just followed him. He clicked on the link in the tweet and it took him to the Nottingham City Stray Dogs facebook page where they were 'advertising' a dog called Oby. This beautiful dog had been stuck in the kennels at Babbington Rescue Centre for over four months - no one wanted him and he was losing weight extremely fast because he was so restless and depressed.

As soon as my dad saw Oby on that very facebook page, he felt an instant connection, so much so that he told my mum, who as an animal lover was bound to fall in love him. What we didn't anticipate was just how deeply she was going to fall in love with him. We already had a dog, Jazz, as well as a cat, Thomas and had no plans to add to our family, but there was just something about Oby that pulled her in.

After a phone call to the rescue centre, my mum and dad took Jazz to meet Oby, to see if they got along. We weren't sure that Jazz was going to accept another dog, but we knew we had to try. We were so pleased when it turned out that Jazz had no problem with Oby and in fact seemed to enjoy being taken on a walk with him! After a nervous few days waiting for a phone call, we were told we could bring our new baby home.

When I first saw Oby at the rescue centre, I couldn't believe how skinny he was! You could literally feel every single one of his ribs and his backbone was more than obvious to the eye. A month on and we are glad to see that Oby has definitely put weight on! He has filled out quickly. Not that we are surprised, as if there's one thing our family is good at, it's at feeding people up! Oby settled in with us so quickly and we definitely can tell that he's happy here. He's every bit as loving as Jazz and though we don't know what happened to him in the past, we can tell that he feels safe and loved in our home.

Oby already has a favourite purple bone toy, a favourite place to sit and a new found love for belly rubs. Oh and I love for food. The boy sure loves his food.

Whilst we have improved Oby's quality of life by bringing him into our home and making him part of our family, he has truly done the same for us. I can't imagine not having this little one in my life. I feel like it was fate that my dad logged onto his twitter that day, had been followed by that particular lady and clicked on that particular link. It proves that social media can definitely do some good in this world! :)

Olivia Accessories A/W 2013 jewellery review

You all know I love jewellery, I don't need to tell you that, so when the lovely team at Olivia Accessories asked if I would like to review one of their A/W jewellery pieces, I said a big yes please! Olivia Accessories is an online fashion and accessories retailer. They stock a beautiful selection of jewellery, with something to suit everyone. Whilst browsing the A/W collection there were so many pieces I liked, but it was these stunning gold pearl disc earrings that really caught my eye.

The gold pearl disc earrings have a real vintage feel to them. I love how they are so simply designed, yet so beautiful at the same time. They are very versatile and go with so many of my outfits from casual daytime playsuits (like the one featured above) to going out dresses. You could definitely wear these to a formal event and I would suggest styling your hair into an up-do to really show them off.

At just £6.00 I think you will agree that these beautiful pearl earrings are excellent value for money. Olivia Accessories also stock a silver version, for those less fond of gold coloured jewellery. The A/W collection has now been launched on the Olivia Accessories website so pop over and take a peek!

OOTD: Embracing autumn.

Trench coat - New Look // Cat dress - H&M // Ankle boots - New Look // Leather bag - Next
I don't know about you but I much prefer autumn / winter fashion, so as soon as it hit September, I couldn't wait to get my shop-on for the next few months' wardrobe staples. Whilst on a little shopping trip last week I picked up this gorgeous caramel trench coat from New Look. I absolutely love the faux leather trims that give the coat a luxe feel. It was very reasonably priced at £39.99 and I know I will get so much wear out of it. I decided to opt for a size bigger so that I can fit plenty of layers underneath. Oh how I love layering knitted jumpers and cosy cardigans. Winter, you really are my favourite.

I also picked up this cute black and white cat face dress from H&M. As much as I set out to purchase 'grown up' clothes, I can never resist adorable animal prints. The dress is made from quite a thick material, which I'm kind of hoping is to compensate for its short length? ;) Haha. It has a chunky exposed zip at the back and is perfect for casual-wear.

In case you are wondering where I am in these photos (as I'm not in my usual garden spot) I actually popped to Bolsover Castle at lunch time for a little walk with James. I'm lucky to live so close to so many lovely places so I am going to try and take my future outfit photos elsewhere to offer a little variety!

Have you picked up any key a/w pieces yet or are you still holding onto summer for as long as possible?

Home accessories haul

As regular readers may have noticed, I've had two weeks off blogging! It wasn't really intentional, but I've had a lot going on and I didn't want to palm you off with a half-hearted post. Needless to say I am now back, with a post I hope you'll enjoy - A little homeware haul! I've been re-doing my room over the past few weeks, so I thought I'd share with you some of the new things I've purchased...

Re-furbished bureau - eBay seller (£120.00)
This beautiful Queen Anne style bureau is an early birthday present from my parents. I have wanted my own bureau for a while now and as soon as I saw this one I knew it had to be mine. My parent's didn't want me to have to wait until Oct 3rd to use it, so they let me have it early! It is duck egg blue and old white and has a stunning distressed finish. I. Love. It.

Heart shape fairy lights - B&M (£3.99)
These dainty heart shaped fairy lights were a real bargain at just £3.99! They are from B&M, which many of you will know is fantastic for cheap shabby-chic style home furnishings. There are ten hearts in total and they are battery operated. I am thinking of hanging them just above my bed. They will give my room a magical, cosy feel on dark winter evenings.

Artificial flowers and vase - Ikea (Unsure of price)
I absolutely love flowers but as I am not always the best at looking after them, I thought I'd pick up these beautiful artificial flowers from Ikea instead. There are so many different types of flowers to choose from but I went for a mix of orchids and tulips in pink and white.

Set of three scented candles in rose print pots - £3.25
I am a sucker from vintage rose prints, so when I saw this cute set of scented candles, I simply couldn't resist adding them to my trolley. I haven't actually burnt them yet and I am not sure that I will because I kind of like them as decorations for my bureau! If you do pick these up and decide to burn them, you can use the little pots as tea light holders once the candle wax has melted.

Heart shape bowl - B&M (£1.79)
This lovely heart shaped bowl would be perfect for using for your morning cereal or to hold sweet snacks whilst you watch a film, however I think I am going to use it on my dressing table! I'm tempted to use it to display some lip balms, mini blush pots or nail polishes, I haven't quite decided yet. Either way, it is a great sized bowl and can be used for whatever you like!

So there we have it, my latest homeware purchases! I hope you have enjoyed this post. Let me know if you have found any cute homeware pieces at B&M or any other low-cost stores. I am also on the look out for some new stationary, so if you can recommend any websites / stores leave the link in the comments below.
